She soon went into a foster home with long time adopters where she began to thrive and recently was able to undergo her surgery, necessary because she continued to go into repeated heat cycles. Within this large haul we received many very young dogs, born into the industry, but because of its decline, did not race. And, we received many older dogs used for breeding purposes when their racing careers were over. Effie was one of our former brood moms. Fletcher and Carson | 2/27/2013
CARSON GOES HOME! Carson, GAC's top dog, finally found his forever home after waiting nearly four years. He was rescued from a horrific hoarding situation in May of 2009. As a result of his background, Carson came to us with many complex social issues and remained at our rescue and rehabilitation center while he worked hard to reach a point wherein he was considered adoptable. GAC never gives up on its hard to place dogs. Staff and volunteers gave Carson the loving environment and attention he needed to reach this milestone. Dogs like Carson is where your donations are needed most. Although we were given no specific age on this boy when he was rescued, we believe he is now nearing eight years old. What makes this story so remarkable is that in 2004, Parker went home with these adopters, having spent six long years at our facility in Lakeside. Parker retains the longevity record at our kennel, followed by Carson. Parker also came to us with difficult social issues to overcome. When Parker passed away, having lived many good years in his forever home, Ed and Rich adopted Topaz, another one of our hard to place dogs. They recently lost Topaz to cancer and the opportunity to adopt Carson presented itself. GAC is forever grateful to Ed and Rich for adopting three of our special needs dogs. Carson joins lovely 9 1/2 year old Sherwood (GAC's Tattooine), adopted as a companion for Parker in 2005. Congratulations to Carson and his new family from all of us at GAC!
