Bluegrass is the founding member of the new Medical Care Fund that has been created as part of the Greyhound Adoption Center's Fyvie Fund.
The Fyvie Fund was founded in 2004, to assist GAC greyhounds who sustained leg injuries. Thanks to a generous donation by Sally and Joe Prestele, of Poway, we now have a component of the Fyvie Fund dedicated to GAC greyhounds with special medical needs (beyond the veterinary treatment we provide to all incoming GAC dogs). The Prestele's donation will fund surgery and after-care for Bluegrass, who came to us with a large lump on his back.
Bluegrass, five years old, came to the Greyhound Adoption Center on February 23, 2009, straight from the Los Angeles airport, following his departure from Guam. As we reported previously, GAC is one of several adoption groups that helped rescue greyhounds from Guam following the abrupt closing of the track there.
We'll keep you updated on Bluegrass' diagnosis and medical treatment. Many thanks to the Presteles for helping Bluegrass and donating the seed money for our new Fyvie Fund for special Medical Care. If you'd like to make a donation, click on How You Can Help to access our secure donation form.
Thank you.
